Maria Stamati was born in Larnaca in 1989 and grew up in Limassol, and is originally from Kythrea and Bulgaria. She studied painting at the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, Bulgaria, and holds a PhD in Art Theory and Painting.
Maria’s artistic subjects have to do with society, tradition, history and nature. Her naturalistic style and use of surrealist elements resonate with a variety of audiences, as they effectively communicate ideas and emotions. Her goal is to present ideas that will cast criticism, self-criticism, and give way to awareness and self-improvement.
Maria has participated in various art competitions and exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad, such as the International Fine Arts Forum between Southeast European Universities and Academies in Romania in 2014. In 2015 she won an artistic residency at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, and in the same year she won the first prize in painting in a pan-Bulgarian competition, and was nominated in the ESSL ART AWARD CEE competition in Vienna.
